Can I remove particular sound (laughter) from video?

I have a nice video and I am trying to edit out the laughter from the video. It is from the person who took the video, it is very loud and ruins the video.
with imovie, is there a replace command? If not, how would you go abouut it
thanks

no such feature..

you can ..
• lower the original audio-track at specific scenes.. (ducking)
• 'glue' some music over it to hide it ..
• or, my recommendation: if somewhere on the video is a 'solo part of ambience noise' e.g. people murmuring, seashore, etc copy such a part and paste it over the ducked parts ..

.. tricky, lots of craftmanship.. but you will not erase it in total.. no way.

Another way to go about is to import your movie in garageband. You can use share->media-choser, and than pick-up this movie in garageband. In garageband you can manipulate your sound track into the greatest detail. Then export from garageband the soundtrack, and import it into iMovie as a sound file. You then can
a. mute the original soundtrack from the film
b. extract de original soundtrack and delete it.
As you have edited the original soundtrack in Garageband (with the movie) you will not have sync problems. (depending on how you do the edit)
In this way you have more possibilities and the same or better accuracy then using iMovie 06.
You keep all the advantages of iMovie 09.

1. When you edit in garageband you have to export only the soundtrack, so without the film.
2. If you made a real cut in your soundtrack you will of course run into sync problems (as a part of the sound will be missing. So either you have to make a mark or a split in your movie in iMovie to locate the exact point of edit en split the soundtrack in GB into parts, or just mute the sound in GB, so there will be no difference in the length of the soundtrack and the length of your movie
