Garageband Auto adjusting levels during recording.
Hey, I'm brand new to garageband, so I'm just getting the hang of things. I was messing around with recording a live piano through the internal mic on my Macbook Pro, and I noticed that for the first few seconds of a recording, it will pick up the reverb from pedaling the notes just fine, but then shortly after, it drops out so that is seems as if I'm not using the pedal at all. I don't have auto adjust on and I am not using any effects, and I can't for the life of me figure out why it is doing this.
Since the piano pedal has nothing to do with the volume, only with the sustain of notes, your problem cannot have anything to do with the level control. And since you are recording through the microphone, the sustain can't go away magically. If there is no sustain on your recording, you didn't play with sustain in the first place.
The piano pedal does have to do with volume. If I hold down the sustain continually the notes will build on each other, keeping the volume consistently loud rather than dropping off after each strike. So the problem could be a level control, a consistently loud uniform noise sounds like something that would trigger an automatic adjustment. My guess was that it is something to do with the Macbook pro's built-in mic having some sort of auto adjust for feedback, but I have been unable to find any way of checking if this is true.
