Windows 7 (32-Bit) - iTunes won't recognize iphone!?

Exact same problem with me. I have WIN7 and SONY VAIO NW but has same P45express chipset... I have not yet found a solution for this and have been trying to for a good while now. Lots of people say it has to do with BIOS but vaio update isnt showing an update for us.

If you find a solution I would be grateful if you let me know.

P.S. it detects my iphone as a digital camera and doesnt show in itunes.. Is this the same for yourself?

Dell latitude e6400, 32 bit, win7 ultimate, Intel GM-45 chipset. .2G Iphone.

I am having the same symptoms as those above.

I am currently installing new BIOS from dell, will report back if it works.

I cannot get the latest iTunes to recognize my iPhone 3gs either.
I just upgraded to a new Win7 computer, and tried everything,
even the steps on this link:

To be more specific, my computer DOES recognize the iphone, it's just iTunes that doesn't recognize that there is an iPhone connected. I tried my wife's iphone as well, and this doesn't get recognized too.

as with the person above, my pc recognizes the iphone, not itunes.

i updated bios, problem persists.

Performance and Maintenance > System > Hardware Tab > Device Manager
o Look for a device called ‘ipod’ - if your ipod shows up as
‘digital camera’ it will be under something like ‘imaging devices’.

4. Update the driver:
o Right click the ‘ipod-camera’ in device manager and click on
‘Update Driver’ – the Hardware Update Wizard will open.
o Check the ‘Install from a list or specific location’ then click ‘Next’
o Check ‘Dont search. I will choose the driver to install' click 'Next'
Here you should see the Apple Device to update, click "Have Disk"
In the text box below type (or better copy and paste) or browse the folder
containing the ipod driver information found in step 1 (in the example
above it was C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRVSTORE\usbaapl_A65621D65F5B7 507DD7B22331826547BDD2D206B),
Click "OK"

DONE!! the driver is now updated and located in the correct USB port [/quote]

when i try the above method, when im trying to install the driver on my phone, it says it is unable to find the driver software even though its in the right directory

FIXED!!!

apple does not properly install drivers into C:\windows\system32...

so, you must unzip the itunes install.exe, extract apple mobile device support.msi

download a program lessMSIerables, this extracts files from .msi install files


extract everything from apple mobile device support.msi


NOW - use the above guide to update drivers, then instead of looking in the windows folder, simply tell the driver install to look in the folder where you extracted the .msi

Firstly, thanks for your solution as it's the furthest I've got to solving the problem yet. However, when I search the folder with the drivers etc. and try to use that to update iphone.

The pop-up box says that Windows found the driver software but could not install it. Then it says that the system can not find file specified.

You mentioned to someone else about unzipping a file or something. Is this what I have to do even though I can see the driver in that folder?

yes, that is correct.
The drivers installed on your C:\ drive are no good.

you must download the install file for itunes, open it with a 7zip or the like, pick out the mobile device .msi, extract with les msierables, then use those drivers.

after you extract, you can simply search the extraction folder for the drivers and they will be found.

sorry for the bit of overkill but I'm not exactly fantastic with computers and so am weary of downloading random programmes I've never heard of. Is the "less MSIerables" the only one I'll need? Also, is there a programme already installed standard on my computer to extract these things instead of having to use this method? Just checking.

there is no pre-installed software on windows that can extract .msi files.

google search for les msierables - its a small install, run it
right click the apple mobiledevice.msi (not the exact name) that you extracted from itunes_install.exe using archiving software (winzip/winrar...).
select extract from .msi

you should have a folder filled with files extracted from the .msi


now, in device manager select your iphone, and search for new drivers in this folder.

Thankyou so much! I downloaded MSI extracter and 7 zip and with a bit of messing about got it working. You have no idea how happy you have made me!! Haha. The "genius" in my local apple store had not a clue. He just reinstalled itunes and had a wee look. Unfortunately, he played the "we don't yet support windows 7" card which is a pile of rubbish.

I have been going round and round with windows and apple and no luck on this after installing windows 7 64-bit. this worked. i couldn't get lessmsierables to download for some reason, but i managed to get 7-zip and i think that extracted the msi files? anyway- i don't care- this process with the drives, etc. worked and i am forever grateful. my iphone just synced for the first time in months!!
