The Magic Mouse is a laser mouse so needs no mouse mat and can work on glass as long it its able to bounce the laser back without scattering it. Laser mice can also work a few CMs off a surface so you can even hold it and it will work, though not very well.
Just don't look at the laser as it can be harmful to your eyes. I'm not sure if Apple has filtered it but most laser mice are class 1 laser products.

I ordered an aluminum mouse pad to go with the new Magic Mouse, is called the MacPadd. Apparently the inventor is a rather strange individual (do a Google search on MacPadd) however the mouse pad is very sharp.

I have a feeling that they may not be available for long and are probably going to become collector items, therefore if you are interested, I would place an order before they are sold out.

I ordered direct from their American distributor, Other World Computing.

Hi. I heard optical mice consume more electricity when the surface is dark because the sensor has to work harder. Is this true?

Could you use frosted glass instead of transparent glass? The glass may have to be sanded to scratch it to become frosted (or a frosted glass sticke could be used to make it look frosted). Thanks in advance.

What really the best surface (combo of surfaces and material) for the Magic Mouse anyway? Aluminum, frosted glass, hard plastic, cloth, dark color, light color, all white, white with patterns, etc.

How Many DPI does it have by the way? 1000 DPI?
