Hello,

I've had my iphone for 2 weeks, and the screen has just started going blank, and I can't use it. I've tried had resetting it, and it reboots, but the screen still doesn't work. I'm using 3.1.2. It only starts working again when I restore it. It works for about a day, then it gets into this state. It' still on as when I switch the mute button it vibrates. Is this a hardware problem?

It's basically brand new, and is a replacement for my other brand new phone that didn't have any sound straight off the bat!

17 inch MBP, Mac OS X (10.4.6), 1GB 100GB 7200RPM

It may be a hardware problem but be aware that a 'restore' takes you back to your last backup (unless you 'Restore as new')...

If there was a problem when you last backed up (whether or not you knew about it) then any 'restore' will simply set up the conditions for it to fail again....

Have you installed any Apps that might have had an effect? It may be worth trying to go one level deeper to determine the likely 'cause' before trying the 'solution'?

It sounds like you're up for the 'fight', so may your trial be a short one!

Good luck!

I don't have any new apps that I didn't have on my other iphone, and it worked fine for 8 months until it went for a swim! I have been restoring as new, and not restoring from backu - doesn't seem to make a difference. It seems to be ok for a while, but when I let it sleep for a few hours, it dies.

This is my 3rd in about three weeks - all had hardware issues. Not cool.

I have a similar problem, I'm on 3.1.2 as well. I try to unlock the phone by pressing the home button and it sometimes unlocks and then re-locks. Sometimes I have to unlock many times and then it will bring up the volume overlay icon and I can't change the volume and the volume indicator doesn't go away. Then it will just die and reboot itself. I also have horrible battery issues, last night I had almost full battery and woke up and it was dead.

settings -> general -> reset -> reset all settings fixed the issue for me.

That was a short term fix, I'm back to having the issue.
