Problems opening a Word doc with images

Without fail, whenever someone emails a Word doc with an image, Pages always fails to import it. I bought iWork because everyone said it doesn't have any problems opening Word docs. I've found that to be the very opposite. 90% of the Word docs I've tried to open with Pages comes with that blasted 'Document Warnings' window along with it. Everyone on earth has Word, should I stop trying to think Apple products are 'better' and 'simpler' and stick with what actually works? Guaranteed these people emailing me Word docs with images aren't doing anything complicated. What would the issue be?

The images are probably in a format Macs can't read. PC user are very ignorant to what to do when sending documents that will be opened on other platforms. Ask them to make sure to use TIFF, GIF, JPEG, PDF, PSD, EPS or PICT format!

Not true.

Many here on principle do not.

It is always a bad assumption to think that everyone is like you, and must be like you.

The equivalent of yelling at everyone very loudly in English, because "everyone speaks English".

Best is to assume that people are different and what can be done to make communication work.

The objection many people have to Microsoft products is that they do precisely the opposite. Microsoft has along standing practice of obstructing and sabotaging users of non Ms products, or people who haven't upgraded.

I've come across a few Word files that Pages refused to open, the worst being a 100+ page document that was huge table. In each case NeoOffice has opened it - NeoOffice is a more Mac friendly version of OpenOffice. Since both are open source and free, it doesn't hurt to keep one of them on the computer for just these circumstances.

The problem with many Windows owners is that they are so very ignorant - no insult meant, they just are clueless and don't even realize how clueless they are. This makes them dangerous to us all.
