How long should I wait? - Dropped Iphone in toilet

Last night my Iphone fell in the toilet, it was in there for about 15 seconds. The phone just sorta powered off on it's own. Currently it will not turn on. It is sitting in a bowl of rice (I heard this helps) drying out.

My question:

How long should I wait before I dare plug it into my computer and see if I can get it to work again. I live in Santa Fe NM which is fairly dry.

Am I hosed? It just powered off automatically. Anyone else done this?

Leave it there, that's where it belongs, I rue the day I got one of these things. Absolutely unreliable as a phone! Brilliant as a toy but no good if you need to communicate.

I'd give it a couple of days, at least.

No way to assess the damage until you try turning it on - you may get lucky. The silver (okay, tarnished bronze) lining is that Apple now allows 'out of warranty service' for liquid-damaged iPhones. That means you'll only have to pay $200 for a replacement, instead of the $600 you used to have to pay...

The iphone has been my only phone for over two years. No problems. It has been very effective for communication.

Definitely give it a few days. And if it doesn't work or only works minimally, keep trying! Over time, it will come back (if it's going to come back).
I did the same thing to mine and at first it was crazy wonky but after many many many force restarts and whatnot, it eventually came back to normal.
Then again, it maybe worth the $200 to get it replaced...

More like two weeks in a warm dry place.
Try taking the black plsdtic antenna cover off the back, so more air can get inside. I advise getting the proper 'spludger' tools off ebay if you don't want to dent the aluminium.
