Turn off scene detection?

Three years ago I edited a project on FCP, then recorded it back to mini DV tape.
Now, when I try to import that tape, imovie rearranges all the shot, cuts out the transitions,
and makes each one a separate shot. It imports everything, but cuts it up and rearranges everything.

Is there some way to turn off the scene detection? I've tried using the manual import, but that does no better.

No, sorry, there is no way to turn this off. This is the default behaviour of iMovie 09. It does not play well with older, edited projects from the Apple software offerings. The transitions will not work in the new iMovie.

You can try iMovie 6 HD and see if that works. Or start from scratch.

Hi, I'm have exactly the same problem as Dave describes above (except my video was originally edited in iMovie 06, before taking to tape).

If there's no way to turn off scene detection in an iMove '09 import, is there some other software that will do this? (Free/cheap is better!) I'm just looking to do a straight transfer from a DV tape to a DV file (or any other format that iMovie '09 an import).

Unfortunately, I don't think I have iMovie 06 anymore.

Thanks,

Tim

I am new to iMovie and can't believe there is no option to turn off scene detection. I start and stop my camcorder several times in the same scene. I prefer to import the entire Dv and then create my own scenes by using the split option. Most basic video editors have this option. Not sure why Apple left this out.
Wonder if this will be added in the future?
