How aggressive is WiFi technology?

I have two questions really.
I currently have a wired router (Linksys) and I have my Mac and my wife's PC (WinXP Home) both connected to to the router and the router to my cable modem. I do not have a home network set up at all, but I'd like to be able to use her printer, and her mine. So:
1.) Is it possible to use my existing setup to network?
2.) How strong is the signal from this WiFi? I live in a four level back split, so to get from the Airport the signal has to go through the floor and 2 walls to reach my wife's PC. Will that work.

Thanks,
Rich

Aluminum iMac 24" 2.8, 4Gb RAM, 750 Gb. HD (2007), MagicMouse, Mac OS X (10.6.1), WindowsXP Home under Boot Camp (not used much)

Your router actually does create a home network. Have you tried to see if one computer can see the other?

It's hard to predict ahead of time how successful a wireless network would be without knowing more about distance, building materials, etc. (Even then that probably wouldn't give me, personally, enough information to advise you.) It would help if you could position a wireless router in the middle of the house so as to be equal distances from reception extremes.
