I use a vb script to shut down Windows machines (there are other ways to do this too):
'BEGIN VBS
************************************************************************* Set OpSysSet = GetObject("winmgmts:{(Shutdown)}//./root/cimv2").ExecQuery("select * from Win32_OperatingSystem where Primary=true")
for each OpSys in OpSysSet
OpSys.Shutdown()
next
'END VBS
*************************************************************************
Save that code as 'ShutdownComputer.vbs' and then execute it.
use apple remote desktop the best. you can shut down your pc and when it starts up it doesnt have to log in for you to remote you can enter your pw (i thought that was cool)
ARD cannot remotely shut down a PC unless you establish a VNC connection and shut it down manually by taking control of the PC. Unless you're talking out Microsoft's Remote Desktop Connection for Mac then you need to clarfiy which software you're referring to.
Hi all, thanks for your replies.
I've decided to connect the UPS to the w2k3 machine: it's a server and it's running 24/7. When the ups kicks in the w2k3 pc shuts down automatically, but only after sending via ssh a wakeup and a shutdown command to the mac.
I've foud this software www.ups-software-download.com that seems to run on osx... it may be useful.
