Help - Mail Server periodically resets Domain and Host name settings!!!

In Server Admin - Mail - Settings - General:

Domain name is currently set to our domain name: "domain.com"

Host name is set to "server.domain.com"

Everything works fine, except that these settings are periodically reset by the Server to:
Domain name: "local"
Host name: "server.local"

When this happens our mail service stops working. How do I stop Mail Server from resetting these settings? I estimate that these resets happen about once a week.

Any advice would be appreciated...!

Just ran into this. I followed your other post which recommends removing secondary DNS servers from System Preferences > Network.

In my case, in Network settings, I had 127.0.0.1 which handles the internal IPs and another server at 192.168.2.2 that handles external IPs. Apparently if Snow Leopard Server queries the external DNS server it will not be able to resolve it's name & ip and will revert the mail hostname to the bonjour name in Server Admin > Settings > Network. Only mail seems to be affected.

Please understand that if that thread's actions solve the problem then the cause of your issue is a misconfiguration (barring having your ISP host your DNS services which is possible but generally not typical for most unless your server is on a publicly routable IP as dedicated to you by that ISP).

Your server MUST be able to resolve its FQDN via DNS, and have working reverse-lookup for it's IP.
Barring the above-described situation, your ISP will have no such entries for your server.
And thus a lookup will fail.

You do not have to run DNS on your OS X Server but properly configured & working DNS does need to be provided for your server.
