Quicktime won't start...

Hi guys,

I getting mad today : i can't get Quicktime to work.
I'm using Windows 7 x64, it's a fresh installation.

I did install Itunes and Quicktime last release. Itunes works except video play back. Quicktime player won't start. I have got the turning circle for a couple of second, and then just no nothing.
I did reinstall/repair Quicktime and both QT and iTunes several time, i did a repair install of Seven, tied to install older version of QT, nothing changes.
I absolutly need QT to run Starry Nights, otherwise i won't bother for i just despise Quicktime.
I ran out of idea now... Is it coming from the x64 version ?

Other OS

What do you see (instead of video) in iTunes when you go to play a video, chonum?

(iTunes uses QuickTime for its video and audio playback, so the nature of the iTunes issue may cast some light on what's going wrong with your QuickTime launch.)

Good morning by the way

🙂 Thank you ... good lord, is it nearly midnight where you are are? (I just quickly checked the current time in Paris ...)

Let's see if Vista has been recording any more detailed information for us about the iTunes and Starry Nights crashes.

Head into your "Problem Reports and Solutions" control panel and check your Problem History for recent iTunes and Starry Nights reports. Click on the reports to see more information.

Could you paste a copy of one of each of the typical iTunes and Starry Nights problem reports in a reply, so we can have a look at it, please?

Hi chonum.

The references to ntdll.dll are the obvious commonality, and we may return to that later. But I want to check on something else first.

From what I'm reading there, it looks like your Starry Nights is installed on your C drive, but your QuickTime is installed on your D drive.

Whereabouts is your iTunes installed? Are its program files on the C drive or the D?

Nov 17, 2009 8:53 AM in response to chonum

I reinstalled on C.

Here is the error report.

Okay ... try uninstalling QuickTime and reinstalling QuickTime back in it's default location in C. Check also to see where your Apple Application Support ended up. (Fingers crossed that should still be back in C, in one of your Program Files\Common Files\Apple\ folders. (The wife is asleep next to the Vista x64 laptop so I can't check to see if that's the (x86) program files folder or the other one.)

Preferably we should try and keep everything on the same drive while we're troubleshooting. I have seen some odd and idiosyncratic instabilities reported when the Apple applications are installed on different drives, so by having them all on one drive we're avoiding some potential muddying of the waters.

With all three applications on one drive, try generating another iTunes and Starry Nights crash. Do the problem reports still mention ntdll.dll? or are they talking about a different module now?

Sorry, we crossed posts ... 🙂 apparently you read my mind about what to check on next.

Excuse me, but because of the wife-asleep-next-to-x64-laptop issue, it's going to take a wee while for me to check up on something, before we proceed. (I want to check to see if the ntdll.dll in the \SYSWOW64\ is the 64-bit or 32-bit version of the ntdll.dll on a 64-bit machine.)

Nov 17, 2009 9:28 AM in response to b noir

Ok everyhting is back on C.
iTunes : Programs
Quicktime : program files (x86)

I've got both an Apple directory in Programs and Programs files (x86)
