IPOD Classic won't show up in Itunes 9.0.2.25

Hello, Hopefully someone here can help me. I upgraded from Itunes 7.6 to 9.02.25. It looked like it loaded fine, I downloaded music to the library, but when I plugged my IPOD in, it dings, says "connecting" on the IPOD screen, but never shows up in ITUNES. It does list under my computer, for about 3 seconds, before it says "ejecting" and disconnects itself. I have tried everything at this link - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1363 - twice - including doing a full recovery on my computer. I tried switching the usb cable and port, I've rebooted the ipod several times - and in disk mode 2x, I also tried the troubleshooting here - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1493. Basically, I've deleted itunes about 20 times and reloaded. I finally thought, screw it and tried to load 7.6 back (i have it on disc, as I live in a rural area and couldn't freaking download it a couple years ago) but i just get an error that I can't download the 7.6 version as I have a newer library. BTW, Apple support basically said, Yep. sounds like a problem. Never heard of that before. What the heck is left to do?

i have the EXACT same problem. just got a new pc (windows 7) and itunes 9 installs fine. all the drivers are in check but my ipod will not show up in the source pane. i have tried EVERYTHING. even apple cant help me after 2 calls. ANY ADVICE? come on apple, ***?

I had the same problem. I uninstalled 9.0.2.25 and re-installed but still the same problem. I rebooted the Ipod and the same issue. By chance I found another iPod cable, plugged it in and it worked... the other cable works with my iPhone but not the classic iPod

SNAP - EXACTLY - the same error for me and my IPOD Classic 80GB. I have installed and re-installed and followed all the various steps to try and repair. now I have an ipod that is useless AND an updated version of itunes that i dont want - how awful and such a time waster too !!!!

doing some process of elimination... my ipod works just fine on my other system (xp). so at least i havent totally lost 73 Gb's of music (boy would I be ******).

I wonder if i need to update the ipod software to work on my new PC? but i wouldnt wanna risk it not working on my xp system. at least for now, i know the cable, the ipod and everything is fine as it always was and i just have to use it on my old pc. i just dont have a fix, but im gonna stay on it. i shouldnt have to uninstall and all that crap when I already know everything works fine on the older setup. this is the problem when moving along with technology. apple and windows7 team need to have a meeting

Same problem here. I have a black video classic and iTunes 9.02. Restored the pod to factory and it boots onto the desktop (and I can open it) and even wakes up iTunes BUT will not show up as a device. What's up with this??

Solved it. In my case, I had used a utility program I found in my Utilities folder called iPod Software Updater that I tried to updated the iPod software with... (it looked like it worked and then I used the restore function, which deleted all the music)...but it would still not appear in iTunes. Finally after a few hours of resets and restarts, I pressed the select and play keys for 6 secs and triggered a reset while I had the iPod plugged into the computer. Bingo...it showed up in iTunes and prompted me to download new software...which I did and now its back. Geez Apple, how did the iPod become such a killer product with an interface like this? So I assume this utility was for a different iPod model or older version OS.

bruce. thats great for you. unfortunately for me i am not willing to restore my ipod at this time and lose 73 Gb of music. i do not have my library backed up anywhere... so im in a bit of a pinch. any thoughts?

cgrox, seems to be a common problem with that hp model of laptop with Intel P55 Chipset, and HP doesn't have any BIOS updates yet for you:

I have exactly the same issue. I upgraded to windows 7 from vista, which for all other software is a great improvement. I followed the instruction to remove iTunes. Reinstalled following the upgrade. The ipod 120gb classic shows as connected on the ipod and in windows, but itunes cannot find it. I've followed all of the instructions on the apple website, but no joy. When will apple solve this one?

Hey Katrina. Yeah still got the old XP system to work with, but it shouldnt be that way, ya know. glad to see you bringing some attention to the issue. Let me me know where I can help you shout out loud.

If you can get to another computer (or a Mac in this example) it will likely ready your iPod...if they didn't also just upgrade iTunes. You can use software like this to copy your music to this new computer: http://www.fadingred.com/senuti/ for the Mac...don't know what's out there for PCs. Then you can reset. Also, if you didn't already, try to load the latest iPod software for your device.

I GOT IT TO WORK!!!!!!! I took a chance and plugged my ipod back into my old xp system (where it was running xp and itunes ver. 7). I decided to try an ipod software update from ver. 1.0.2 to ver. 1.1.2. the update installed without a hitch. disconnected and plugged it into my new windows 7 system and BOOM my ipod was recognized! Friggin sweet! I thought I might lose everything having to restore, but thought what the ****, im desperate. so thanks to all of you who helped me troubleshoot different things and let me know if i can be of more help.
