Magic mouse sticks/freezes

Anyone else noticed a problem with the Magic Mouse in that it seems to get stuck for a few seconds at time?

It'll work perfectly, then I can't move it left or right (only barely), you can click, it'll move up and down more than left or right but still not much, and then after about 10 seconds it'll work perfectly.

If you pick the mouse up and bang it down very lightly it comes back to life too.

Is it just mine?

Think I might have a work around. I don't run dual monitors like a lot of you guys but it got me thinking about monitor setup. Anyhow try setting your monitors refresh rate from 59 to 60hertz. Since doing that I have had no problems. Buggered if I know how this relates to a mouse freezing but it seems to do the trick!

Also, do what someone suggested in an earlier post and also go to your Bluetooth settings in the task bar and take the tick out of Alert me when blue tooth wants to connect.
Hope this helps

I had the problem with my Macbook 15", Unibody, that the Magic Mouse startede hanging shortly like every second. But not just the mouse, everything did that hanging, like typing. When I disconnectede my Dell 24" external screen it stopped! Everything normal on the laptop screen. Connected the Dell, and it was back again.

Then disconnecting, and POWERING OFF the Dell for some seconds. Connecting everything again - and the problem was gone!

Hope this can help someone. It seem to be the screen that does someting - OR maybe the external harddisk connected to the Mac, through the Dell's USB hub...

I have had the mighty mouse freezing issue for a couple of months; it must be as a result of a software update but not sure which. Sometimes it comes back just by repeatedly pressing on the central button. Resetting the NVRAM or PRAM helped for a couple of weeks. But then I read a post in another thread and have just updated Airport utility to 5.5.3 - By the way I have mirrored screens but have had them for 2 years without a problem until the last two months so I don't think that is the problem nor is it the refresh rate nor is it the Firewire or USB drive which again I have had for 2 years without problem (although I have tested without the USB and the freeze happens anyway) - these are, I am sure, side-shows. Unhappily Apple support haven't been as proactive as I now realise they ought to have been given this - and other - threads.

The Airport Utility 5.5.3 didn't on its own change anything. But I then reset the PRAM I reset the SMU and I started up in Safe Mode and then restarted in ordinary mode. I also deleted the plist file described earlier. That caused a lot of problems until the system re-set itself - the mouse cursor moved but none of the buttons had any effect. So far today I haven't had a mouse problem. Famous last words...

I should have said my mouse is a wireless mouse. But what you say is interesting; there are 10,000 things going on at the same time at any one time; who can tell? Sometimes combinations of kit can have unexpected results. Since I posted in Nov it has actually been been working very well - I have had maybe one or two disconnections. So I reckon all or a combination of resetting the PRAM the SMU and the dance into and out of Safe Mode as well as deleting the plist file sorted it out but too busy to experiment any further! 😟

HI,

Go to MacintoshHD/Library/Preferences and move this file to the Trash and see if it makes a difference.

Only worked for me for about 20 seconds then back to the hesitation. I have anothe r brand new magic mouse I use for remote work. Switched it with my regular magic mouse and same thing... hesitation. It's not the mouse. It's not the distance to my computer. I must be one of the OS updates because it wan't happening before and my workflow is suffering without being able to select, pick and click things cleanly because my mouse is sticking or too jittery to make accurate selections of icons and graphic elements.

Same here. This issue just started happening for me last week but I can't pinpoint what's causing it. My ecosystem is as follows:

- 2.3 GHz Core i7 15" MacBook Pro

- 27" Apple Cinema display (non-thunderbolt)

- Magic Mouse was purchased as a refurb but worked perfectly until now

- Have tried 3 sets of brand new batteries

- No change if disconnecting external monitor

- Deleting the com.apple.Bluetooth.plist file seems to work for a very short time, but the problem continues thereafter

- Watching iStat Menu's, I see no blips in my CPU usage during freezes

My hunch is that this is related to the video card. I notice the issue most when I'm rapidly mousing over links in a browser that change the cursor from a normal cursor to a pointer (or other cursors).

Can anyone else reproduce the following?

1. Go to http://sandiego.craigslist.org/

2. Do rapid figure-8's over the links on the page

3. Watch your mouse for "stickyness" or blips in responsiveness

I can reproduce the freezing issue by doing the above within about 20 seconds of starting that motion (occasionally within about 10 seconds).

The freeze is probably only 1/4 of a second but its enough to really screw with my workflow.

Any input?
