Title vs name of file

I created a files in itunes and changed the titles, I doubled up some of the numbers by accident. I used Adobe bridge to rename the files in sequential order, however when I import them into Itunes it still displays them with the old title. If I get info on the item in finder it shows the name of the file and under more info it shows the Title How can I wipe that out and have Itunes use the name of the file?

Mac Book Pro 15", Mac OS X (10.6.1), Itunes 9.0.1

I use Itunes to manage my music. I have songs that got titled incorrectly when I initially imported them. I have fixed the file names using Adobe bridge to number them sequentially 1-100, I then deleted the songs from Itunes and re-imported them. However they imported with the names I gave them when I originally imported them. It is important that they play in order. I need to know how to erase that original title from the more info section of the get info section, and still keep the songs in order.

When you name a file in iTunes (assign a song name/title to a track), you are actually editing an MP3 tag stored inside the file. The Adobe Bridge routine, on the other hand, edited only the file name as seen by the operating system. These are two different things, and while iTunes knows the name of the file it does use it for display during playback.

Again, sticking with the do-it-in-iTunes-method, you need to assign each entry a track number in iTunes. iTunes looks at this MP3 tag field to determine the normal playback order.

Since you are keeping music "organized," iTunes will rename the file according to the information stored in the tags. So, you renamed the files, but as soon as they were back in iTunes, iTunes changed them back.

If you want them to play in a certain order, you are really trying to do it the hard way. Instead, put them in a playlist in the order you want, make sure they are all checked, make sure shuffle is turned off, and start playing at the top.

Stacy, you can try the following. Put the files in iTunes, highlight them all, Get Info and change the Name to blank (all at once). Take the files out of iTunes, and rename them with the number, using Adobe. Then add them back into iTunes.

I believe that when iTunes adds them back in, it will note the blank Name and will use the filename as the Name. Put them all in a playlist, sort by Name, and voila. Try it first with 5 songs, before doing hundreds. Let us know if this does the trick.
