Time Machine does not back up Automatically

Try trashing the preference file and restarting (com.apple.timemachine.plist).

Also, is your system clock OK (working normally)?

By system clock, I meant the one that displays the time in the menu bar. I think I made up some new terminology! 🙂

Needless to say, I have not seen a situation like yours before.

Hopefully one of my more technical virtual colleagues will have more suggestions. I am sorry I have not been more helpful. I do not want to suggest things that will take your time that "might" work.

have you used any software that alters the backup schedule like TimemachineEditor of TimeMachienScheduler? also, restart the computer. if there is a temporary problem with TM daemon this might fix it.

you mentioned that you trashed the TM preference file. did you set up TM after that again in system preference? also, look in Console logs and filter for backupd. see if there are any error messages coming up.

no, there is no need to trash the log plist. the log records error messages and might help you troubleshoot the problem. if there are some problems with the TM launch daemon there could be some messages about it in the console log. Open Console.app, loo at the console log and filter for backupd. see what comes up.
