MacOS Error Code: -61

I am running Snow Leopard on a Leopard network. When I access a share through the network and try to edit a file I'm getting the error message, "An attempt to write to this volume failed (MacOS Error code: -61)

Other Macs running Leopard on the network are having permissions problems as well. So, I'm not sure that it's just a Snow Leopard issue.

Our network admin has us connecting through FTP instead of AFP and that seems to be working, but, I find it strange that you can't have a internal network of macs.

Has anyone else run into this problem? If so, how did you fix it?

Using screen sharing I logged into the shared computer and navigated to the file I want to edit. I got info and changed the permissions to Read & Write for "everyone".

Then with the finder on my computer navigated to the file opened it and edited it. When I tried to save it I got the same error (-61).

I am using OS 10.6.2
The computer hosting the share is using OS 10.5.7

Also the shared computer is a PowerPC G5 while mine is a Intel MacBook Pro

MacOS Error Code: -61
