My Safari Error List

Let's see, my list of gripes.

Just ran permission verify after latest update and had hundreds of errors strictly in Safari. Was able to repair them.

.Tiff files show up as blank white pages.

My RSS feeds display i's as the letter L.

No, you didn't have hundreds of errors. The fact that your permissions weren't what they were "supposed" to be is not a problem. Permissions will naturally change over time as you use your computer; "repairng" them merely sets them back to what they should be if you had never used the application. It's not an error by any definition.

Tiff files show up as blank white pages.

That could be a cache issue on your system. Try "Reset Safari…" in the Safari menu, and uncheck all but the first five checkboxes; then try it again. You can also create a new User account and test opening .tiff files there to see if the problem is systemwide.

My RSS feeds display i's as the letter L.

That could be any number of issues, including a font issue. It may also be solved by resetting Safari, as described above. Try it; you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Hello 46:

Repair permissions has nothing to do with how much you use the application. Although it is, IMHO, a waste of time, I do it myself after software changes. There is no problem if the permissions are repaired (corrected) properly.

My RSS feeds display i's as the letter L.

If you post a screen shot of what you are talking about, someone may help. Offhand, it sounds like a font issue.

Did you recently migrate or copy your Safari app from another computer or drive? The only time I have seen a significant number of Safari related permissions errors is during such a migration. If not, send feedback to Apple via the Safari Menu>Report Bugs to Apple. Cupertino engineers would want to know about this situation.

Regarding the RSS issue, have you installed recently any 3rd party Fonts? Whether yes or no, running a 3rd party Utility repair of the Font cache may prove helpful. If you don't have a font utility app installed, ownload a copy of Font Nuke. This will allow you to clean the Font cache.

No, haven't ever touched Safari, only applied the Apple updates via the Update Utility.

Same goes for the fonts. I don't touch them.

This box has hardly anything installed on it other than the native apps. I have Yahoo Messenger, Camfrog, and Security Spy. That's it.

And it was a clean install of Snow Leopard with nothing migrated.

Hi

Did you clear the Font Cache? If not, I suggest doing so. Restart the computer. Then open Safari and see if the font problem has cleared.

I have Yahoo Messenger, Camfrog, and Security Spy. That's it.

Not familiar with any of them, or how they impact Snow Leopard. However, given you clean installed Snow Leopard, I suggest you send feedback to Apple. Also, make sure the 3 apps you mentioned are Snow Leopard compatible.

I played around and zoomed in on the RSS news page and it appears to be a rendering problem. You can barely make out the tiny space between the top and bottom of the i, which makes it look like an l. But then if you click on a news article, the headline appears to have the same size font as the problematic RSS feeds and the i's there display properly.

This is something Apple needs to fix.

So, I'm sitting here today surfing the web with Safari and the scroll button on my Apple Mighty mouse (the only thing I can get to work properly in Snow Leopard using an HDTV as a monitor) stops working. It goes left and right, but refuses to scroll up and down in the browser. I close down the browser, open it back up, and same problem. I reboot the machine, same problem. Scratching my head I decide to empty the browser's cache. Wham, problem fixed.

This is one screwy browser!

I appreciate the suggestion, but honestly, why would I clean the mouse when it has worked perfectly since I emptied the browser cache?

I sat here today looking at endless houses on realtor.com. Eventually the mouse could no longer scroll down a page. It could scroll sideways, but not down. I quit Safari. Didn't work. Rebooted, didn't worked. Cleared the cache, it fixed the problem. Hasn't recurred since.

Hi,

Essentially HTML does not work like that.

You can write the code involved so it does something like this
http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/EZJim/EZJimpage1.html (Drag the page wide and narrow and the Left hand margin stays the same)

But my page is not Auto Centered.
Many pages are written to cope with as any browsers as possible and it mean compromises on some things.

Newspaper sites tend to aim for a Letter or A4 type layout which is fairly narrow (13" Screen size) so that not everyone sees the spare white space left and right in your Link example.

I also have items that will change the colour of the page to help with reading and you can change the Font Size.

Most Browser can Zoom or increase the Text Size in some Preferences Settings.
If the HTML code of a Page states the size and Font you can be stuck with that particularly if the Font is on your Computer.

See here
User uploaded file

If the Font is not there those setting will be taken in to consideration if the HTML lists no substitute.
