Canon PIXMA iP 1500 not compatible with 10.6

This printer is no longer supported by Canon. If you have Mac OS of 10.2/10.3/10.4 or 10.5 you are O.K. otherwise Max OS X will not work on your 10.6 version.

Interesting. Checking the Canon Australia web site, the iP1500 driver for 10.6 is not listed. But if you get the latest Canon driver update provided by Apple for 10.6, it lists the iP1500 with a v10.26.1 driver (the same version that other Canon's use on 10.6).

Have a look at this article regarding supported Canon printers and you can download the driver update from here.

None of the Canon drivers, even the latest versions, can be used when you want to connect via a Windows share. This is due to a limitation in the Canon. It was the case with previous versions of OS X and is still the case with 10.6.

When you have the printer shared from Windows, you need to use a CUPS based driver, such as those offered by Gutenprint or PrintFab.

Gutenprint is the preferred choice, because it is free. However not every model of Canon is supported with Gutenprint (such as the iP1500) so this is why you sometimes need to purchase PrintFab, which does list the iP1500 as a supported model.
