Quick Time Error #2738 on Windows 7

Hi - I am trying to install (upgrade) Quicktime on my 64-bit Windows 7 computer. I receive the error #2738 when I try to either uninstall or install. I googled this and saw that you should register vbscript.dll with regsvr32 - which I did. It says it successfully registered vbscript.dll I try to install it afterwards - and it still comes up with the same error. Do you know of any other solutions to this problem?

Thanks!

Windows 7, 64-bit

Crikey ... haven't seen one of those for a while. But you found precisely the right thing to try first, so you've been doing well.

Doublechecking something ... when you were reregistering vbscript.dll, were you in \SysWOW64\ or \Win32\ ? For the QuickTime install, I'm pretty sure you'll need to register the 32-bit version of the dll (which is kept in SysWOW64) rather than the 64-bit dll (which is kept in Win32).

Hmmm. So the 32-bit vbscript reregisters but we're still getting the #2738.

Let's try to "triangulate" on the issue ... try to download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from Microsoft (we aren't going to be using it for anything ... but a vbscript problem often prevents it from installing or running, so it might give us some additional information on the nature of the VBScript problem):

[Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility|http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301]

If you get an error message on the CleanUp install, let us know what it says.

If CleanUp does install, try launching it (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up) ... do you get an error message then? If so, what does that one say?
