Can I delete MobileSync back ups?

Hi Everyone,

inside library/Application Support/MobileSync, I found that the folder is 50 GB, and has back ups that date back to 2008... to be honest, there is nothing sensitive on my phone... Can I delete lets say everything but the most recent back up? Or even EVERYTHING and then make one new clean back up? Or will I suffer some other unknown pain?

I can't think of a reason I'd need to back to older back ups...

thanks!

These old backups are most likely from instances when you restored your phone, I'm guessing, because if you choose to "Restore from the back up of", iTunes makes a copy of the backup you chose to restore from and that copy is marked in the syncing preferences of iTunes with the data and time when the backup was created.

At any rate, if you want to delete these, it should be done through itunes, with your phone connected. Open preferences in itunes, select the device tab, click on the backups you want to delete and select "delete backup".
