Editing after Upgrading to Snow Leopard

After upgrading to Snow Leopard, I get the following message whenever I try to edit a picture-including those that have been edited before:
"Unreadable Files:
The following files could not be imported. (The file is in the iPhoto Library)"
At the bottom of the screen is "Preparing to Import" with a constant "beach ball".
Any suggestions?

You're iPhoto appears to be trying to import. Do you have a camera or phone attached?

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.

Tried that "fix". Still can't Edit using Edit Icon.
However, I can edit a photo by going to full screen using lower left arrow--at the bottom of the screen.
Any thoughts?

As a Test:

Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'

Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

Good Test--still can't edit unless I go to full screen, first by way of arrows. If I double click to full screen and go to "edit", I get " importing" message.
Possible photo data problem?
Any other ideas?

Given that this is happening in two Libraries we know the Library is okay amd now we need to look at the OS and the application.

What hardware is connected to your Mac? Disk? Scanners, Printers, Card Readers, multi-putpose machines?

Disconnect them and see does the problem recur.

If it's still happening: a final test:

Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.

I borrowed a MacBook Pro 15, OS 10.6.2 , iPhoto 8.2. Imported into new Library. Same problem as my iMac 20 running same software. No externals connected to the Mac Pro except Bluetooth Mouse.
Any thoughts.

No, no thoughts except it doesn't happen here and yet you have the same thing happening on two unrelated machines...

Thanks for your help.
As an aside, I created a new library with new pictures that I just took--same problem. Same problem with libraries on an external had drive that were OK before I upgraded to Snow Leopard.
Perhaps Apple will solve problem.
I'm out of ideas.

AS you are the only person who has mentioned this issue I don't see a fix coming from Apple. I'm afraid that this sounds very much like an issue local to your set up.

Can you post screen shots of what you are seeing?

Perhaps I'm the problem and not Apple.
I changed the Preference "edit photo" from" iPhoto' to "using full screen".
That seems to work. When I hit "edit", I don't get the "importing" message or beach ball.
It may just be a work around --but I'll take it.
