iphone video playing keeps stopping

I have owned an iphone for a couple of weeks. It seems that often (or maybe always) when playing a video from apps and youtube, the video keeps stopping. If you keep pressing the play button, the video may play for a couple of seconds but then stops. This happens with my daughters iphone bought at the same time. What is happening? Is the phone defective or can this be fixed?
