Remap right option key to forward slash key.

Question

Remap right option key to forward slash key.

Is there a way to do this, or software I can use? My macbook keyboard is not working properly (See this thread)

Is there a file I can edit some where or a program I can use that will allow me to remap this key? Most programs I find only allow remapping specific keys.

Macbook4,1, Mac OS X (10.6.2)

I think I worded that wrong. I mean logically (in software) replace the forward slash key with the right option key, so that pressing the right option key gives me a forward slash, or pressing shift-right option gives me a question mark.

If I am wording that backwards I am sorry. Going on no sleep here. ;_;

I don't know of any.

It's probably not a good idea anyway. Just use the left option key. And you might need the forward slash key one day.

I don't know if it's possible exactly that way but you can remap your keyboard layout using Ukelele
http://scripts.sil.org/cms/scripts/page.php?site_id=nrsi&id=ukelele

so that option+> gives /. Ukelele won't let you remap the modifier keys but perhaps the above will suffice?

After a Google search, I came up with Double Command. It has some positive reviews; however, I would make sure you have a backup on hand, as it is a kernel extension, so unless the coder is perfect it could end up screwing up your computer.

I already installed that and there were no ill-effects, however its options are limited.
Checking out ukelele now.

Ukelele doesn't seem to want me to remap option-anything to the slash key, so that application is out of the question.

I'm thinking that because of the way the Option key works, it would firstly be impossible to code anything that affects the Option key unless you have Apple-insider knowledge on that kind of stuff.

However, if your slash key is broken, do this as a "replacement:

1. Open System Preferences.
2. Click on Language and Text
3. In the left pane, check the box next to "Keyboard & Character Viewer"
4. Check the box next to "Show Input menu in menu bar".

Now, you can open the Keyboard Viewer from the menu bar icon. Then just click on the Slash button.

as i said, you can not remap the option key with ukelele. but you can remap option+> to /. ukelele can do this. I just did it.

I am trying, using the "Swap keys" option, but it doesn't see a difference between the . key with and without the option key being pressed.

I'm not sure what you are doing but here is what I did.
1. start ukelele and open one of the system keyboard layouts provided with ukelele. I opened the US layout.
2. doubleclick on the / in the layout. you'll get a popup showing /
copy it to the clipboard.
3. then press option and double-click on >
paste the keyboard into the resulting popup.
that's it. now option+> produces /
save the layout, put it into the Keyboard Layouts folder in your library and select this layout in the input menu.
