Are NEW NVidia GeForce 7800 GT cards really still available?

I've found some sellers who claim that they have NEW GeForce 7800 GT Mac edition cards that were "pulled from new Power Mac G5s". My reaction was kind of like, "it's been nearly 4 years since the last Power Mac G5s were being sold by Apple. Where did you guys come across NEW Power Macs that could have the 7800 GT cards pulled from them??" "And what happened to these NEW Power Macs after they had their graphics cards pulled??"

Should I not be skeptical? Or, in 2009 are there really still TRULY NEW GeForce 7800 GT cards for Mac still available for purchase?

Lastly, how can you tell if a graphics card is truly brand new if it comes in a plain anti-static bag?? (other than it just looking really clean?)
Would appreciate advice from any late 2005 Power Mac G5 owners (or others who have found new cards that have not been in stores for a while..) Thanks much!

It seems to me that a "new" card would have a "new" warranty, as in one year or so. That to me would be the key.

You are wise to be skeptical.

I have a new GT 7800 for Mac from MacMechanics but I cannot find where to plug the 4 pronged power cable plug into my G5. Can anyone help? Thanks.

You need an adapter cable to split the power off of the Optical drive for it.

Dear Jcbnyc,

The cable and plug that came with the GT 7800 should fit the empty socket on the logic board just behind the PCI card guide.

Do you have a URL for Mac Mechanics? When I did a search for "Mac Mechanics", I got numerous results calling themselves that.

By the way, and I mean to ask this tactfully, how do you know for sure that the 7800 GT you got from them is new? Would appreciate knowing more about this seller.

BUYER BEWARE

these cards are all flashed pc cards. they will either work, or not work. whil ei found the service to be prety great from those guys, the shipping charges can quickly *** up if/when u have to send cards back and forth.

my perfectly working g5 has turned quite unstable since investing on one of their cards. Unfortunately, NOBODY has cards for the g5 anymore. As much as i love my box, im being forced into transition, as my 9800 died and now i have a crashbox. As a freelance designer this is crushing me right now. Im am on the second "new" card, and it may be going back. I am tied of troubleshooting a part that should be plug-and-play.

my adice? get a mac mini, or start saving those pennies fpor a expensive mac tower.
