Importing stills to iMovie from iPhoto

I imported some stills from iPhoto to iMovie. In the preview they looked sharp but when the photos were on the timeline, the photos looked blurry. Is this how the photos will look when I export my movie or will the quality of the images be as sharp as the originals? Can anyone help me with this? Thanks!
