Screen Flickering on 27" iMac Core i5, anyone solve this yet?

This is my SECOND Core i5 iMac. I've had to exchange the first one due to a screen issue (dead pixels going vertically down the center) and now the replacement model is plagued by the screen flickering horizontally at random.

Has anyone found a resolution to this problem? If I exchange it again, is there any way for me to be 100% sure my next model will not have these problems? Perhaps, a batch # on the box?

I am fresh back from the apple store with a new 27" i5 imac replacing the one I purchased two weeks ago. When you go back to your Apple store you will want an imac that was made weeks 49 or 50 (see New Zealand PC World article about the flickering problem). The third and fourth number of your serial number (also on the box sticker) is the week it was manufactured.

Differences I see: My week 46 flicker imac ran at a much higher temperature (52 degrees celsius) according to a downloaded application called Temperature Monitor. My week 49 imac is now running at 33-35 degrees). Fan is blowing harder most definetly.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

My first 27 inch Quad core i5 iMac came in early November, it was produced on week 45..Flickering and black outs were noticed one or two days after getting it. After 5 calls and a trip to a Apple authorized tech. who could not reproduce the problem..Finally Apple sent me a replacement computer made on week 50 and I have the same issues with the flickering and blackouts on that new imac as well! Not sure what to do? I called apple again and they said they are working on this issue and keep checking back with them and let them know if the problem gets worse. Will there be a software update to fix this issue or a batch recall? It sure would be nice if Apple could contact all of the other thousands of people who are experiencing the same problem with a update or solution. I really don't feel sending another computer back waiting another 2 weeks for a replacement to see the same problem again! If anyone knows a fix to the screen problems with the new 27 inch iMacs please comment.

I'm having all these same flickering problems. I'm on to my second replacement. And after waiting a couple of weeks for the new machine. It has exactly the same problems as the previous!! I've installed the firmware update and now just waiting to see if it works. Not sure I should trust it though. Almost ready to give up and just return the Mac.
