I brought my phone in to the Genius Bar today with a shattered display, had the display replaced, and then had to have the phone replaced as the earpiece sensor wasn't working. I was told to simply restore the phone from a backup.

The backup took a very long time, and then when the phone rebooted, it stuck on the apple logo. I found info online on forcing a restore, and now I cannot seem to get past the "Waiting for iPhone" phase. It just sticks on it, and if I unplug, I'm shown a (9) error message.

I've looked everywhere for a solution, is the new phone toast?

iPhone 3GS, iPhone OS 3.1.2
