    Hello Mr. Pretzle,

Have you a had a chance to work through every one of the troubleshooting solutions provided in this Apple support document? If not, it would at least be a good place to start.

Hi, I am having the same problem with my 4th gen iPod nano. I tried turning the Hold button on and off and held the menu and center buttons in the ipod until the Apple logo appeared, but itunes is still not showing my ipod.

If you are having the same problem, click on planb77's link at the bottom or his post and follow the instructions. It fixed mine

I have this problem with several versions of iPods nano. They are mounted on the desktop but don't show up in iTunes. Interestingly, the iTunes window comes to the front, so it thinks something should be happening -- like showing the iPod in its sidebar list -- but it's not happening.

I have found the following works:

    Quit iTunes
    Plug in the iPod

When iTunes is launched with the insertion of the iPod, it seems to show up in the list but not when iTunes is already open.

The same thing is happening with mine. Except it won't just not show up in iTunes it won't show up at all! Not in "My Computer" or even Device Manager (like the troubleshooter says) They say to check out the status of USB Mass Storage or iPod but since my computer doesn't recognize that anything has been plugged into it I can't do that! Anybody have any idea what's up?

My ipod is doing the same thing, I am beginning to think that it is dead. I cannot get it to charge turn on or connect to anything.

I have tried all the fixes in planb77 comment and I still can't get my iPod nano to show in iTunes.

Is there any thing else that can be done?

I need a fix too. article http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1363 does not work.
I have un-installed and re-installed everything for Apple. Still no connection.
Single ding when connected to the computer, but no drive and no connection to iTunes. This started happening after the latest iTunes update.

    This needs a FIX!!!
