Importing videos from a Sony DCR-HC32 MiniDV Camcorder to my iMac

You'll need a 4 pin to 6 pin Firewire cable. Connect the 4 pin end to the Sony's iLink port and the 6 pin end to your iMac. If your iMac only has FW800 ports, you'll need a 6 pin to 9 pin Firewire adapter.

I have a macbook Pro with a firewire 800 port. I have a sony dcr-hc32 camcorder. I am using a firewire 800 9 pin to 4 pin cable. The camcorder reads DVin but the computer doesn't recognize any connection. Suggestions?

I had trouble with my iMac recognizing my videocam. I have a Sony HDR-XR500. I assumed it was the firewire port that I needed to connect with but it's the USB port that works for me. It seems to work better when iMovie is already open and then I connect via USB. Hope that helps.

General rule of thumb is tape base cams use firewire and hard drive/memory base cams use USB.
