How to add company email (hosted by gmail) to iphone

Hello everyone, first my apologies if this inquiry has been answered already -- I tried to search for an answer but wasn't able to find one. I have an iphone 3G.

Here's my dilemma. I have my own company and my corporate email is hosted on gmail. So, for ex., if you send a message to xyz@xyz.com, I actually receive that message in xyz's gmail account, i.e. xyz.company@gmail.com. In turn, I can use that same gmail address to send a message either with the xyz@xyz.com email, or with the gmail address. Gmail is always the email client.

Now, on my iphone, I have added the xyz.company@gmail.com address, so when I use the iphone mail application, any message sent to xyz@xyz.com appears in my xyz.company@gmail.com account. BUT -- if I use the iphone to reply to that same message sent to xyz@xyz.com, the recipient sees that the message has actually been sent by xyz.company@gmail.com.

So, how can I configure my iphone so that I can send a message from my xyz@xyz.com email? As I mention above, I can do this using gmail on a computer, but I want to know how to set up the same option on my iphone.

Hope that makes sense, I would appreciate any help/suggestions. Many thanks and happy holidays!

If your companies email is being hosted by Google using their "Google Apps for your Domain" service, you should be able to set the email up as xyz@xyz.com rather than xyz.company@gmail.com.

Myself and many of my clients use Google hosted email and they don't have @gmail.com addresses at all. As soon as Google is managing your domain's email, they just use their domain email address.

The following pages detail the steps I took to setup Google hosted email:

Unfortunately your recommendations aren't working, I just tried and haven't gotten the needed results. Here's what I've done (see additional notes at the bottom):

First, I made sure that in the xyz.company@gmail.com gmail settings, that under Forwarding and POP/IMAP, that IMAP is enabled.

Second, I went to Settings, Add Account, and selected Other. Under IMAP Account Information, I enter:

Name: XYZ
Address: xyz@xyz.com
Description: xyz@xyz.com

Then it takes you to the next settings page. Under IMAP, I enter:

Name: XYZ
Address: xyz@xyz.com
Description: xyz@xyz.com

Incoming Mail Server
Host name: imap.gmail.com
User name: xyz@xyz.com
Password: *****

Outgoing Mail Server
Host name: smtp.gmail.com
User name: xyz@xyz.com
Password: *****

Unfortunately this series of settings doesn't seem to work. Am I missing something in the process, or have I not configured something properly? Looking forward to further guidance, thanks!

If Google is hosting your email, and your domains MX records are set to point at Google's mail servers, then you should not be using the <xyz.company@gmail.com> email address at all.

You shouldn't be trying to add your companies email account to a @gmail.com account.

Everything should be through your <xyz@xyz.com> - no @gmail.com required.

If Google is hosting your email then you manage it at the following URL:

https://www.google.com/a/cpanel/xyz.com/

You then log-in with the administrator email address to manage it all.

Without knowing your companies actual domain name I cannot check whether the MX records are set correctly for Google to be hosting your email.
