Hi,
I am having a problem with my jpg files. Regardless of the view I use (coverflow, list, etc.), when I choose the jpg file, no preview of the jpg image appears. For example, when I am using coverflow, pressing the spacebar yields no image...only a black background with a thin line down the center (which I am guessing is suppose to be the jpg image).

This is very annoying! To view the image, I have to open it in the Preview Application. What is causing this, and what is the fix?
Thank you,
FMW

You should move to 10.6.2 at the least.

Otherwise, there was some chatter about problems with aliases - does the problem occur with old and new jpgs alike? Find old ones and test and then create a fresh one and test to see.

Thank you for your reply. Actually, I am using 10.6.2. Following your suggestion, I did create a new jpg. Opened as it should. So, must be the "old" jpg's, although they worked fine until, now that you mention it, I updated to 10.6.2. Do I need to "re-create" all the old? Yikes...there are quite a few! Any suggestions?
    Looking forward to your response.

When I try to open a jpg or jpeg file in preview I get an empty window.

I'm having the same problem with Preview and iPhoto running 10.6.2 and the latest of iphoto 2009. Deleting plist for preview and reinstalling the 10.6.2 Server Combo update didn't fix the issue.

This is running on a refurb Mac Mini Server with 10.6.2.

    I ran UPDATE 6.2
The issue went away, it's now back -- this issue is unsolvable.

Unsolvable...that is not acceptable! (Not your fault.)
Maybe apple will have an update soon, to correct this problem. It is annoying, to say the least. The problem actually for me once I updated to 10.6.2.

    Happy New Year!

This is ridiculous. I'm under AppleCare for this new mini server so off to the genius bar where I'll end up having to do a factory refresh and have to reset up this machine again. What a waste of many hours.

    Hi
I am having the same problem, the image does not appear in the main preview box, it is shown in the sidebar window but you cannot drag it into the main window, I have tried tiff and jpg but to not avail, the only way I can import into main window is converting the picture into eps (but it then automatically converts to a PDF format before importing), I am running 10.6.2, any ideas

I have the same problem on Server 10.6.2 since updating. JPEG's preview in the finder fine but won't show in the Preview App.

I guess there's no going back to 10.6 without an erase and reinstall, right?

I am having this same problem. It was fine before I moved to Snow Leopard but now I cannot view jpgs in the main window of Preview. Pdfs are fine though. Does Apple have a system where these are addressed quickly?
    Any simple solutions welcome!
    Many thanks,

Did anyone ever get anywhere on this? Do we just go back to 10.6.1 and wait until 10.6.3 comes out?

This bug screwed up Extensis Portfolio on my system too. All the thumbnails generated on the system are blank now.

I haven't gotten anywhere on this either. Is it possible to go back to 10.6.1 w/o doing an erase and reinstall?

Finding mention from another thread I found here, deleting the com.apple.preview.plist file did the trick for me.
