Can't Install iTunes or Quicktime Error Code 2356

Hi!
I cannot for the life of me install either Quicktime or iTunes. I haven't been able to for a long time, which was never a problem, until I got a new iPod and iTunes wouldn't let me sync the two them until I installed a newer version. I have read many posts + looked all over the internet and can't seem to solve the problem. I have run a registry cleaner. I have removed iTunes, Quicktime, and anything related. I have tried to download quicktime as a stand along program. Everytime I try to install these programs I get a message about an error code 2356. Has anyone ever had a problem like this or have any ideas how to fix this? Thanks ahead of time for your help.

I don't like that error message code, MissAmanduh. Always been a bit of a mystery that one.

Are the 2356s talking about trouble with a data.cab file? Or some other cab file?

Okay, we'd better check on something you haven't explicitly mentioned trying yet.

Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from Microsoft:

[Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility|http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301]

Now run the utility ("Start > All programs > Windows Install CleanUp"). In the list of programs that appear in CleanUp, select any iTunes and/or QuickTime entries, and click remove. Quit out of CleanUp.

Restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Any better luck this time?

Thanks for taking the time to try and help me. I have tried that. The program will actually not even download on my computer (Windows Installer Cleanup). I get this error message...

Windows Script Host
Script: C:\DOCUEME~1\User\LOCALS~1\Temp\IXP000.TMP\StartMsi.vbs
Line: 1
Char: 1
Error: ActiveX component can't create object: 'Scripting.FileSystemObject'
Code: 800A01AD
Source: Microsoft VBScript runtime error

I am sure the problems are connected.... or maybe not. I do not know. I have looked online about this problem and see a few different solutions, but didn't want to try anything, because I do not want to make things worse on my computer. Do you know what this means or how to fix it?

Actually, I got that problems fixed (the one above).

Was there an issue with your Windows script, MissAmanduh? (I have seen people get past that sort of thing with CleanUp by either reregistering their vbscript.dll or updating to the latest version of Windows Script.)

Checking on that, because problems with Windows Script could cause trouble for folks with installs or uninstalls of earlier versions of QuickTime and/or iTunes. Usually it would manifest as a different error message code (2738), but it may give us a heads up on your 2536 too.
