Video hardware acceleration disabled? HELP!

Hi need some help
Trying to play Sims 3 and i keep getting the following message:

Video hardware acceleration is currently disabled due to safe mode operation or a driver error.
Please ensure you have a working OpenGL Hardware Renderer and try again.

I have all the patches and updates for the game and snow leopard. The graphics card is working as I have no problems with playing dvds. The diagnostics say everything is fine. I have played this game since installing snow leopard, but have only had problems since installing the latest snow leopard update(10.6.2). I have even tried reinstalling the game to no avail.
I have already tried the EA forum for a solution and they suggested you guys!
And I'm not the only one having this problem on a macbook pro...

Early 2008 model
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.6 GHZ
2GB memory

Let me know if you need any more info
Thanks 🙂

Macbook Pro 15", Mac OS X (10.6.2)

Have you tried a permissions repair after the OS update, using Disk Utility from your "Utilities" folder, tia.r.

As I understand it the game should run under SL 10.6.2 with your particular GPU, though there have been problems with some earlier GeForce GPUs.

If a "permissions repair" using Disk Utility doesn't fix it, then I'd be inclined to try downloading the "Combo" version of the SL 10.6.2 update from the Apple site, and installing it over your existing installation.

Cheers

Rod
