G5 not upgrading from 10.4.11 to 10.5

Hi guys,

I am trying to upgrade my old G5 from 10.4.11 to 10.5.

Every time I put the disc in, it shows up, and asks me to restart, then asks for a password. It then reboots right back into 10.4.11! The old OS!

This driving me nuts! I've checked the spec on the 10.5 box and I seem to be well over spec! 4G Ram in my G5.

Can anyone help?

Hi JP, and a warm welcome to the forums! 🙂

You're not stuck, you can go to Leopard/10.5.x, just not to the latest Snow Leopard/10.6.x.

Leopard requirements...

* Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor

minimum system requirements

* 512MB of memory
* DVD drive for installation
* 9GB of available disk space

Snow Leopard Requirements...

General requirements
Intel Core 2 Due

* Mac computer with an Intel processor
* 1GB of memory
* 5GB of available disk space
* DVD drive for installation
* Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
* Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.

But you have to call Apple Sales to get it, it's not available at the online store anymore.
