I know this problem has been out there but was wondering if anyone found a real solution. I get this message when I try to burn a CD or if I try to back up to a disc. Itunes will start writing the first song, but then the burn will cancel followed by the "unknown error 4261" message. If you google that, you get about three different sites selling "free" registry fixes. Lots of information telling you your registry is corrupted and you better get it fixed. I ran something I already own called "Registry Mechanic" (part of Spyware Doctor) but to no avail. This is really irritating to own iTunes and can't make a dadgone CD!
Same error. 25 attempts to burn library to CD. Very frustrating. I can't believe there are no other posts in this forum related to error 4261. Don't mess with those junkware registry "fix" programs. It's a problem with iTunes being junky software, not your PC.
I'm about to go mad with this problem too. Initially, 4261 was the error that came up for me, and then after I followed the instructions re: the registry, the error number simply changed to 4251 -- but with the very same error continuing. I can't believe that so many have been having this problem for so long and Apple has yet to offer a fix.
Edit: To be clear, the instructions in that support article recommended above are the ones I followed.
For me, over the last 3 months I have lost over 60 blank CD's due to the 4261 error code... Apple can raise the price per song but can't fix this "F"ing problem.. BTW none of there suggestions help like slow done the speed etc.. They are just passing the buck.......
