Integrating D-Link DWL-G810 into Airport Network

Has anyone out there had success using a D-Link DWL-G810 wireless bridge to connect to an existing Airport network? I tried connecting a 266Mhz iMac to my Airport Extreme/Express WDS WLAN at home using WPA/WPA2 and had no luck at all. Switching over to 128-bit WEP seems to have helped a little though the DWL-G810 seems to keep dropping the internet connection periodically. The only ways I can restore the connection seems to be either restarting the DWL-G810 device or pinging the WLAN subnet (10.0.1.255) until I get a response from the Airport Extreme BS. Might it have to do with the fact that the DWL-G810 is on a separate subnet (192.168.0.30)? Thanks for any advice.

The IP address assigned to the DWL-G810 (192.168.1.30) is only of importance when configuring the device. Though it would be best to reassign it an address on the same IP subnet as the rest of your network (ie 10.0.1.x where x>200) to facilitate future configuration, doing this should not be essential to its ability to function as a wireless bridge device.

Have you updated the DWL-G810 to the most recent available firmware version available from D-Link (ie version 2.15)?

Hi Henry, thanks for the response. I've tried assigning the DWL-G810 a 10.0.1.x address using Manual IP addressing. It caused the device to lose its connection to my network entirely, though I did not use a number >200, I'll try that. I also tried to set it to DHCP hoping that my Airport Extreme Basestation would assign it an appropriate IP address, that did not seem to work either and I was unable to address the device since I could not figure out what IP address had been assigned to it. I was forced to reset the device to factory defaults.

I have not updated the firmware, it is still running v2.13. I tried to update it to 2.15 using the iMac and it seemed to choke resulting in no firmware update. I might try again from a PC running Windows.

I tried updating the DWL-G810 firmware again, this time on a PC running windows 2000. The firmware upgrade worked and solved the problem completely. The DWL-G810 is now working flawlessly (knock-on-wood). As it turns out, I think the firmware upgrade would have worked from the iMac also, it was just that Safari was automatically decompressing/mounting the .bin file right after download from D-Link's support site. By using the original .bin file, I was able to upgrade the firmware properly. I did not change the DWL-G810's fixed IP to something in the 10.0.1.x range.
