Error code -1407

Question

Error code -1407

I am suddenly unable to move files to the trash. I continuously get the above error. I don't recall that I've changed anything recently but I am in the process of migrating from Tiger so no telling what I may have changed. The permissions are set for Read & Write. Earlier today I was able to trash items.

I would try [fixing the hard drive with Disk Utility|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1417].

You aren't using the Migration Assistant between a PowerPC and Intel Mac?

If you are, it is possible you may run into issues. This user tip was written to address preventing them:

Okay, I was able to solve the problem. Disk Utility told me I had a bad problem with the HD. I rebooted with the Applications install DVD holding down the "D" key and got NO problems. Then I restarted and was able to trash the items I previously could not.

Issues that start appearing with the directory may be the result of a dying hard drive, and you should be prepared in anycase.

Fixing permissions with disk utility did the trick for me!
