Hi,
in your 1080p you can reduce the audio settings and make them as in your 720p version.
Also in your 720p you were specifying 5Mbits/s bitrate, while in the 1080p there is not indication as such.
You can try to keep using 5Mbits/s and see how big your file is getting.
Also if you are de-interlacing your 1080i you'd better activate frame control on.

Armando.

Hi,

I am also trying to upload a video to youtube. I shot it on the RED and used ProRes HQ 422 to output a 4 GB file for a 4 minute video. I'm wondering what settings I should use to get it under the 2GB maximum size to upload to youtube at the 1080p option? What should I do to get optimal performance and quality?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Lena

Hi Lena

have a read of Steve Douglas excellent and simple article 'Using Compressor to Encode HD Content for Vimeo' at Ken Stones website. although 'vimeo' is in the title the specs also meet those of youtube

http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/vimeo_hd_compressordouglas.html

try his settings - you might want to vary the '5000' data rate until you get the quality and file size you like and suits the quality of your red footage. - expect you will want to try 5000 and downwards e.g. 4500, 4000, 3500

send us a link when your done- nice to see some red footage!

I right in the middle of a project and I hope I wrote everything down.

Fire up Compressor and drop the Pro res into target window... or add.

Click onto the Settings window and type h.264 into the search widow.
Pick the first h.264 setting and drop that target window.
High light the h.264 setting in the target window and then click on the Inspector Window.

Click on the second tab to the right in the inspector window, Encoder.
Click on the Video: Setting button.
Key Frames: Automatic
Data Rate: Restrict to 15,000 kbits/s
Optimized for: Download
Encoding: Best quality (Multi-pass)
Click OK
(youTube recommends to turn off frame reordering. I haven't found it has an effect one way or another.)

Click on the Audio: Settings button.
Format: AAC
Rate: 44.100 KHz
Target Bit Rate 1280 kbps
Click OK

Streaming: Fast Start

Click on the second to the last tab, Geometry.
Make sure the right size if set...

Hit Submit.......done

I'm just passing this next part on:
Lastly, I have been testing the x264 Encoder codec from myComet in Compressor (and MPEG-Streamclip). It faster than the Quicktime h.264 codec. There's more settings for tweaking. And it fixes the gamma shift that Quicktime h.264 exhibits. x264 multi pass can be set to two or three passes. Two passes are recommend (making it even faster). The speed of the first pass is very fast compared to Compressor. Compressor on the other hand makes three passes. Depending on the length of the video and content Compressor will only make two passes.

x264 quality in my option is the same if not better than Qucktimes h.264 codec..........

I just created custom settings in Compressor using the recommended guidelines mentioned in the Ken Stone article. The only thing I changed was restricting the data rate to 15,000. Is that going to be too high for Vimeo/Youtube? The problem I have had in the past (before using the Ken Stone recommendations) with some of my videos now is skipping. Is this because the bit rate is too high?
