iPhone "other" capacity? what's that?

iPhone "other" capacity? what's that?

In the itunes, there is a capacity bar below contains the information what is on my iphone, but i have over 1gb on "others". what is that?

And how can i get rid of it?

iPhone settings, email messages, SMS messages, Safari cache/history/cookies, calendar events, contact information, phone favorites, recent calls, Notes.

Remove these items to lower it.

Sometime a failed installation can leave stuff remaining there. A restore will fix that.

This "other" contains 3rd party data, settings and failed syncs or corrupt data. If it's getting too big ( >600mb) a restore will reduce the size again. You can also see your "other" data increase when you update apps. On my phone (16GB) it's getting smaller again after some syncs, now approx. 400mb.
