iPhone, PTP, and albums

Does iPhone only support PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol) for the "Camera Roll", and not for albums? That seems to be the behavior that I observe. Just hoping there's something I'm missing.

I am working on software for a public kiosk to acquire images via PTP from iPhone and other devices which don't mount as mass storage. I want to access any image the user has on the device - I don't particularly care whether he has the image on his home computer, or whether the device is or is not regarded as a backup device. I do expect that this will mostly be used with images which were captured by the device itself, and I would expect that they have the full original size and quality. What if an image is captured with the camera, then moved to an album, without ever being moved to the computer - does it get reduced in quality?
