youtube not available

Take your time to write a thoughtful comment on a video, hit send, and it's gone, "youtube is not available". It happens frequently on the iphone app yet never happens on the desktop site. This bug has followed the youtube app across multiple phones (OG & 3G), multiple OS updates, and still happens randomly. Not having a feature is better than one that frequently doesn't work, and frustrates, as well as wastes your time...I'm so ready to checkout the latest from HTC

Macbook Pro, Mac Pro, iPhone OS 3.1.2

Then assuming you have done everything possible to fix it, including either calling AppleCare or visiting a Genius Bar, and you have absolutely made sure it is NOT a YouTube problem but is one with your iPhone, that everyone else who does this is experiencing (you could check with YouTube), and can't be fixed, and it is that important to you then you have made the right step in moving on to another phone.

BUT, do remember if it turns out that it was not the iPhone but YouTube you are going to have something under your skin with your HTC.

NOT intended to be marked as a question

I'm 100% certain it's an iPhone youtube app issue deggie. I'm pretty certain it's a result of the youtube app not being able to handle youtube's comment-captcha which is triggered after X number of comments. The app does not have anything in place to handle the captcha request, and so deletes your comment and simply says "youtube not available". If this issue doesn't affect you it's not a big deal, but when your comment is so completely important that the contents expressed wherein were likely to have saved lives, and touched the hearts of millions of readers worldwide, as you know 99.9% of my comments always do, then it's reasonably frustrating, right? It's been this way with the youtube app for as long as I can remember.

BUT, do remember if it turns out that it was not the iPhone but YouTube you are going to have something under your skin with your HTC.

hehe, true enough, Apple really pushed the mobile device forward and there will always be bugs getting under our skin. sigh, technology... is it such a love-hate relationship with everyone else?

If it is a YouTube app issue have you checked with YouTube or their forum to research the problem?

No, Apple made the app, so I didn't consider contacting youtube, thanks.

Seems like I would have heard of this bug before now if it was that widespread and yours is the first time I have seen it.

I just sucked it up for months (maybe even years) before bothering to mention it here, so I'm not surprised by the lack of discussion. I've recently started using youtube much more than before.

I realize you have "sucked it up" but do you really think over the past 2.5 years no one else has used the YouTube app? And if this was a bug that was present in the YouTube app, on every one of the 50 million iPhones, wouldn't at least one other person have noticed it before now?

While the YouTube app comes with the iPhone it is a YouTube provided app.

deggie, this issue has followed me across multiple iphones...do you think the bug is in my DNA code? Of course I think others have noticed it, and they haven't bothered to register at discussions.apple.com, to begin a discussion about it. I'm beginning to wonder why I bothered = p

Yeah, no it's not. The iphone app is made by apple.

That is strange. Have you tried contacting Apple, since they're the ones who developed the iPhone YouTube app.

Thanks for checking with them.

Comment on 10-20 different videos (maybe less). Eventually your comments will fail every time after the youtube captcha-limit is triggered (for an unknown duration). It happens when youtube's captcha-limit is triggered, but since the iphone doesn't handle the captcha-limit, your comments simply fail. I will borrow my spouse's iphone and verify again that it occurs on more than just my device.

That's correct, the problem is with the iphone youtube app & commenting. It is a conditional problem. youtube has a captcha in place that is triggered after you make X number of comments. The youtube app has not been developed to handle this. Therefor when the youtube server has triggered the captcha requirement, the youtube app fails to present the user with the captcha, and sends your comment without the captcha input, so your comment is failed to be accepted by youtube's server.
