Apple Student Program for Colombia?

Hi there,

I've being searching the whole site, trying to find a number or an email to send this inquiry to but I couldn't so Had no other choise but to post this on the Discussions hoping for someone in the high roll to see this post.

I've being a wanting Apple to give Colombia the Student discount program as it would help us (and me) to be able to buy one as their price is a bit high and considering the international economical situation, its hard to buy things nowadays.

I study Mecatronic Engieneering in the "Universidad Militar Nueva Granada" in Bogota - Colombia, and as hard as the name sounds, its a tricky career in which we need powerful tools to develop our projects which they have to do with Robotics.

Im hoping for this to be read and maybe Apple considering giving us an incentive ^_^ as im sure, we will do a great use of it.

Thank you all for your time.
Sincerely Yours,

Sebastian

Hi Sebastian,

I'm not sure we can help you in this forum…but I did try to find if there is some kind of higher-educaion contact for Apple in Columbia. I found a number of Apple resellers in Bogota and other Columbian cities…but they all looked to be commercial to me.

I know that Apple has had higher-ed people working out of Mexico City…but I know that's pretty far away from you. I have to imagine that South America is a large enough market to have some kind of Apple representation…though I'm not sure who the correct contact person would be or how to find him/her. Even in the USA, there are surprisingly few people working in higher ed…Apple is a very efficient company.

My suggestion would be to talk to your school's computing department. LIkely the people there already know whom in Apple to contact to get any discounts you might be entitled to.

Hi there,

We'll I tried contacting those stablishments but they all said "we just distribute apple's merchandise, we can't help you" and yes I know mexico is a bit far thats why Im trying to reach Apple from this site because I'm very (and I know a lot of students in my university/Country, are too) in buying apple products but as I've said, they are a bit expensive and I, can't afford to buy them.

I hope people in here can help me and if someone knows how-to reach Apple personally, like by sending them an Email, it would be Awesome, believe me when I say, we really need some computers that do work.

Sincerely Yours,

Sebastian

Sebastian,

No need to convince me that Macs are awesome, I totally agree. 🙂

"Normally" Apple works through each school some way and the discount that applies to students would also apply to staff and faculty…if nobody at your college/university has ever gotten an educational discount, then it's likely your school has had no contact with Apple. While I don't know how Apple deals with universities outside the USA in any detail, I strongly suspect that Apple will not give you a discount outside some arrangement with your school. Were I in your shoes, I think I'd try to convince my school to establish a formal relationship with Apple. If that doesn't work, you might want to approach it from the other end…find someone at Apple who is willing to establish a connection to your school. Unfortunately the only language I learnt outside of English is German…so my ability to read Apple's Columbian pages is pretty limited…and so I couldn't find any "obvious to an English speaker" links to higher-ed contacts. If you can find an Apple contact, I would strongly urge you to talk to him/her from the standpoint of your school and not from your own perspective (your enthusiasm can color your discussion with Apple, but Apple is not going to deal with your personally, only with your entire school). It's very likely that Apple is going to want to talk to someone who can speak on behalf of all your students and faculty.

I am sorry that I can't be more helpful…unfortunately this forum is dedicated to issues that relate to iTunes U site administration…I'm not sure if any of us knows the best way to put you in touch with Apple in the way that you need.

Hi there,

thank you very much for your attention and I'll try to get someone in my college and ask him/her about this kind of situation and if they are willing to do some business that, in the end, will benefit both ends.

I did heard that they bought computers off Apple but I dont know if those were part of some bargain/deal, tho I guess i'll have to take a deeper look into it, I'd be so happy if things goes as expected.

As for the help on here, I really appreciate yours, I do understand that reaching Apple staff through this forum is a bit of nonsense but hey, trying is what counts right? in the end, when you want something so bad, theres no mountain you cant climb.

Once again, thank you and i'll see what I can do!

Sincerely Yours,

Sebastian
