Your MacBook can use 8GB as seen [Here|http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/AppleMacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade/DDR3White]. -GDF

I was checking on similar question, although to only add 2 more gigabytes. I looked here on Apple site and they say only certified Apple tech should install memory and the warrenty is void, if Apple does not approve of the work. My warrenty is out anyway, but others might wonder. That OWC is nicely priced for the 4 GB. Thanks for the reference.

This is what I have now:

    ECC: Disabled

    BANK 0/DIMM0:
    Size: 1 GB
    Type: DDR2 SDRAM
    Speed: 667 MHz

    BANK 1/DIMM1:
    Size: 1 GB
    Type: DDR2 SDRAM
    Speed: 667 MHz

That is why you hold onto the old ram so you can swap it out if you ever need warranty service.
