phone redialer needed

occasionally, I need to redial at length until I get thru. The exact sequence, just to be clear goes like this:

1. phone app, phone dialer (green call button), input number dialit
2. if busy, end call on first busy signal
3. redial until it rings

this can take some time...

at present I simply have to manage this myself, by manually clicking the the "Call" and "End Call"
its quite annoying to say the least.

Does anyone know of any iPhone app which will automate this task ?

MBP CD, MBP C2D, Intel Mini Mac, Mac OS X (10.4.10), Intel iMac, Windows C2D system

You would think some savvy dev would have tackled this already. How hard can it be to software mimic what my ears and fingers can already do ?

Currently impossible, I would think. There are 3rd party apps that dial, once - but to do so, they pass off the number to the iPhone's native phone app. 3rd party apps cannot run in the background. So, how exactly is the app supposed to dial the number again, if the app is terminated after handing off the number to the phone app?

That's why Apple has to implement this, if it's going to happen (or they will have to allow 3rd party apps to run in the background). But either way, there's no clever way around this. Thus, my suggestion to submit feedback to Apple. They're holding all the cards here...

Most replies to this thread refer to the obvious practice of manually redialing, which is missing the point. I believe the original poster is seeking an Auto redialer. More feedback needs to be made to apple on this common, though little known, phone feature not present in the iPhone. My nokia from 11 years ago did this, as well as my old landline (both via at&t). The objective is to continually dial a number with a "busy signal due to high call volume" and once it gets through, you are patched in via a call to your phone. You would basically set it up to auto-redial, let it do it's thing, set your phone down and wait for a call when it finally gets a ring-through. I would bet there is a numeric prefix you can enter that does this, similar to how *82 works to remove caller ID (not sure if it's 82 or 83?).
