Transferring apps from old iPhone to new iPhone

Hi

I recently purchased a new 3GS, successfully did a backup of my old phone, and set up the new 3GS to copy all data from my old phone. (There is an option when you are registering the phone at first to restore data from another iPhone.)

All data seems to have been restored (contacts, calendar, photos, wallpaper, etc.) except my apps and application data.

I always download apps on iPhone directly.

I have plugged old iPhone back in to iTunes to see if the apps have synced back to iTunes. On the springboard screen pictured within iTunes, all my apps appear, and there's one app in the list on the left which I must have purchased but never downloaded properly; this is fine.

But when I plug the new iPhone in, which has been recently set up from new as described above, these apps don't show within iTunes or on the device.

There was no message when I set up new iPhone asking if I wanted to transfer applications.

Please help

Thanks

iPhone OS 3.1.2

If you've already transferred the apps to your computer, under the applications tab you should be able to select what apps to transfer to your new phone when the new phone is connected to itunes.

Did you set your new phone up as "new" or restore it from a backup of your old phone?

When your new phone is connected to itunes, make sure that your computer is authorized: "Store", "Authorize this computer".

Yes, this should be the case - but it's not.

At the moment, when I connect the new iPhone to iTunes, the Applications tab shows only the default applications on the right.

See here for screenshot of iTunes when new iPhone is connected.

At the bottom of this screen, it says "select applications to be installed on your iPhone or drag to a specific home screen", but the only app listed is the rogue app called Camera Zoom, which is something I recently downloaded and decided not to keep.

All my other apps do not show up here.

ETA: the other icons you can see on other pages of Springboard on the right of the screencap are not apps, they are links to webpages.

ETA: I did a restore of the backup of my old phone, this is how I hoped to keep all my settings instead of setting up from scratch.
