Turn off Snap-to-Grid?

In Pages 09/Layout, can snap-to-grid be turned off (for fine-tuning of object placement)?

It seems this must be included, but I haven't found it.

You can nudge an object with the arrow keys, or select and hold the object and then depress Command to fine tune the placement. If you depress Command first, rotation is enabled.

There's no actual grid (à la AppleWorks) in Pages. Rather, there are alignment guides that show up under certain conditions.
I think you can probably get what you're asking for by disabling them in *Pages > Preferences > Rulers*.

This does exactly what I meant:

To clarify for any future readers: this refers to the motion of objects being dragged. The default drag occurs in stepwise “jumps” (with the object settling exactly on underlying gridlines, whether they’re seen or not), whereas doing Command-drag lets the object settle anywhere between the stepwise “jump” positions.

There is no grid, invisible or otherwise.

Objects are simply aligning to page centres, margins or other objects. The command key simply stops it aligning to anything.

It is easy to test, just get a blank page and drag an object around.

The arrow keys move the objects 1 pt at a time.
