Can't edit information in iTunes Library

Can't edit information in iTunes Library

After transferring songs to my iTunes Library I have tried to click on them so I can add composer, artist, and genre. Half of the songs will not allow me to add these items. I continually click on the song but it won't let me add anything or make any changes. Any idea what is causing this problem?

iMac G5, Mac OS X (10.5.7)

try this:

right-click (or ctrl-I) on your iTunes music folder and +get info+. check if you have read & write permissions. if not, change it accordingly. next, click on the little gear-shaped icon and +apply to enclosed items+.

try editing the songs again. any luck ?

I am having the same problem with just one song in a library of some 3200 songs. Read and Write permissions are correct. I am neither able to modify any information regarding the track (genre, artist, album…) nor am I able to delete the track. It was imported at the same time as about fifty other numbers, all of which can be edited without any problem. I can play the track and its play count updates correctly.

Okay, solved by stopping iTunes and then restarting it. I noticed that upon restarting, iTunes displayed that it was adjusting the volume of the very track that was posing the problem. I waited until the adjustment had completed and then tried to edit the song's info -- it worked!

I have been having the same problem, and I was wondering how do I see if I have read and write permissions?
