upgrading ram iMac 8,1

i have an

Model Name: iMac

Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 3.06 GHz

is it possible for me to upgrade my current 4 gigs to

Apple Memory Module 8GB 1066MHz DDR3 (PC3-8500) - 2x4GB SO-DIMMs

i'm confused as to what model i have as per my applecare agreement it is a (24-inch 2008 early) but on the upgrade page my 3.06 ghz processor does not fit the 2.0 to 2.8 ghz description but the early 2009 one....

Shadostrike,

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.

Probably the easiest way to tell the kind of memory your iMac uses and how much memory it will can expand to is to look in your owners manual.

If you don't have that handy then you can go to this web site and it will tell you about your iMac. The model year, type of memory it has and other specifications.

Then you can go here to locate your manual once you know exactly what iMac you have.

Roger

Welcome to the Apple Discussions!

The Early '08 24" iMac came with either 2.8 or 3.06 MHz CPUs. The smaller 20" had either had 2.4 or 2.66 MHz CPUs.

The memory for your model is 200-pin PC2-6400 (800MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM. The bus speed and the RAM speed do not match on this model and folks have reported issues of poor operation when trying to install 1066 MHz RAM instead of 800 MHz RAM.

Apple says that the RAM is maxed at 4 GB, but we now now that this Mac can and will address 6 GB of RAM!

Hi shadowstrike

OWC has both a 4GB module or 6GB kit for the 8,1 iMac.

see > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/iMac/IntelCore_2_DuoPC2-6400

The PC3 ram only fits in the 2009 iMac models.
