Canon i80 wireless printing, how to change the Printer Model

Hi,

I set up a Netgear WGPS606 USB print server and I'm trying to change the Printer Model for my Canon i80.

When I go to
System Prefs > Print + Fax > Printer Setup > Printer Model > Canon

all I see are BJC - xxx - Gimp - Print Beta vXX etc. I selected the BJC - 85 and can print however, the font is very small.

I also used the Print Utility > Show Info > Print Model and can not locate the Canon i80 as a selection

Is there a way to change the Printer Model to i80?

Thanks.

No you cannot. The basic problem is that Canon's printer drivers for OS X don't support network printing. There are a few Gimp-Print drivers for older Canon printer models that do work, and may work (with problems) when used with other Canon printer models as you have noted. Best solution - buy a new printer, and if you want to connect it to a network print server device do NOT buy a Canon printer.

My suggestion - get an Apple Airport Express and use it as a "wireless print server" (and return the Netgear print server you purchased). You will save yourself a lot of grief in the process - and you will be able to continue to use your Canon i80. It is on the list of printers compatible with the Airport Express found at:

Yes, the Airport Express costs 50% more than your Netgear WGPS606. The amount of grief you will save yourself - priceless.

I tried that, my computer sees the express and logining onto the network is fine.the computer also sees the printer on the network if i try and add a printer, however it does not show a driver for the i80.if i plug the i80 directly into the usb port on the computer it works no problem.
hence i am confused because everything sees everything else, i just can't select the correct driver when using the i80 wirelessly......i can however select a gimp driver and it works, but not properly.
any ideas?
thanks
